try and try again………

So today I am trying again.  I have been working with “someone” (her name is Jean and she is wonderful), for the last 5 years trying to get my products on to QVC yet to no avail. We have tried a lot of different avenues but the main problem is QVC says cutting boards don’t sell well on TV.  Don’t they know I want to be the first one to “Sell Out” of cutting boards on TV!!
I am trying again.  I am sending these all the way to Pennsylvania and see if its a no or a “GO”!
What do you think?
Would you buy a set of heart shaped wooden coasters and a heart shaped cutting board set?
If you will, please call your nearest QVC representative and tell them.  Here is their 800 number if you are so inclined.

Should I ask Mr. Know-it-All to call them too?
I hope you would!
I hate to get my hopes up only to be taken down but I cannot help it.  The bane of my existence is optimism!

so…….youre sayin’ i have a chance……….

Do you remember the movie Dumb & Dumber when Lloyd asks Mary if he has a chance to be with her?  Mary says, “your chances are one in a million” and then Lloyd replies, “so you’re sayin’ I have a chance!”
I love that line. It just confirms that you can look at anything with your glass half full even when your glass only has a drop left in it because you still have a chance.  It might be a minute chance but its still a chance.  You must still believe.  I really do believe in second chances and I also believe in asking for the impossible because you never know what the answer could be…… until you ask.
Today I found out that “The Chew” received the cutting boards I sent and they love them and will be using them.  My dad suggested that I decide to be bold and ask if I could come on their show to talk about the boards and how fun they are to make and use while working in the kitchen.  I think its a long shot, my glass has a drop left in it, and I’m really reaching, but you know what?  That wonderful girl that works for “The Chew” said she would do what she can!  She said to keep doing what I’m doing because its awesome!
I am grateful for the encouragement from New York City to little Lodi, California and I look forward to following up!

the chew

Well I am up to more shenanigans, and this time might have worked……..
Strategically, I have been trying to find professionals that I can connect with on LinkedIn that I might be able to do work for or with.  I found a really good one just before New Years!
This wonderful person, has a very important role at “the chew” on ABC and I thought I would ask if she wanted to connect…………and she did!!  And then I was bold enough to ask a favor, (and I say Bold because this is Bold to me),  to ask if I could give her some cutting boards for the cohosts to try out.  She answered my email! Yes she did people!  She answered it and her answer was, “yes, please send me your boards and the cohosts will have access to them and be able to try them out and possibly…….maybe possibly, they could use them on the show!
I thought I would make up 4 boards special for the show and then engrave them with “the chew” logo and hopefully they will be used and noticed.  Here I am with them……….
And here they are on the table……
I am so thankful for the opportunity for the cohosts to
use our boards and see how they like them, also, they might want to talk to me about my shenanigans that I pull on a regular basis………hint hint……

its been a long month

So its been a long month and it seems like its taken longer than a month to complete but we got the 400 cutting boards done and ready to ship!!
Long days, weekends, little children helping out, and a lot of time sanding we got it done with a group effort.
I am tired.
So this was the beginning, gluing…….well sort of…….you have to cut all the little pieces to glue first but I didn’t get to photograph that part.  I am working here you know!!
Melissa then planed all the 250 planks…… ask where i was??? Well I was taking the picture and watching……no i was actually staining and finishing a job we had due that week so thanks to Melissa she got it done!!
Then we had to take all the planks and sand the rest of the glue off and here is Jakob taking the boards from the other side of the sander while I was feeding it on the other side.  This was a few days and I remember it was the week of 110 degrees.  I will take that weather back when i need to loose 10 lbs in about two days time…….
We cut out the hearts on the band saw……
This is me having to use my glasses to see cutting the hearts out……
Nathan handing me each heart to sand the edges on the belt sander……. all 80 of them……..
Finish sanding all 400 cutting boards……..
Oil and label………
and finally……….
Boxes on Pallets ready to be wrapped……..
and this my friends is the end of the story….well until next time……..
If you ask, I will tell you “no I am not ready to make the next batch of chef boards.” Also which I need to be starting on right now……
My proposition for the day……..Does anyone want to help out and receive cutting boards for life????

update on Homegoods…….

I started writing this post and I was going to label it “D-Day this Friday” because as of Friday the first stats on the sales of our cutting boards should be coming in from HomeGoods.  Then I checked my email and I got an update from the buyer!!!  Early!!  The sales on our boards are going very well and they want more!!!! I cannot be more excited and thankful!
Just so you and i are on the same page, these are the boards we shipped out to the HomeGoods stores,
the french bread board,
the circle or round shaped board,
the square shaped board,
and of course the heart shaped board……
What have I been learning for the last 7 years, to give God all my faith and trust in everything.  So I give God the reigns, then I take it back, then I give it back, then I take it back again, and give it back……exhausting right?  And then I question what His will is………all the while he is preparing certain things to fall into place in His Story that I cannot see and all I have to do is Trust.  I am going to be a learner for LIFE in this area.
Thought you might like to see “Little Clone Mr. Know-it-All” working in the shop yesterday with my dad.  He is so cute.

pursuing a new vendor……

I am now pursuing a new vendor, “The Sundance Catalog” aka Mr. Robert Redford and trying to see if we can possibly sell some more designer cutting boards to his wonderful company.
They seem to sell very “original” items and it seems our items might fit nicely.
I sent an email maybe two months ago and read in the fine print that you probably won’t get an email back and maybe you would, no guarantees…….. Well I got the “unfortunately” letter back which means they actually looked at the email enough to send one back if you want to look on the “brighter side.”  I did get a buyer return email and they told me to send another inquiry again.
So today was that day!  I sent this nice buyer an email with pictures immersed in the content, one of them is on the left.  Hopefully if they see the picture of the item in their face they might actually read what I wrote.
I have learned that buyers seem to get a lot of emails and phone calls and everyone says; “look at my great product” and its not always great.
Can you imagine disappointment after disappointment until suddenly you see something that is actually worth looking at.  So I have got to make that “something” they want to look at “my something.”  If I can do that they might want to be a carrier of my product too!
I can only hope.

some reject me and some accept me……….

I am so thrilled that I finally got a hold of a buyer at “Crate & Barrel” and that they took the time to reject me.  As my good friend Bob says, at least they took the “TIME” to look at your product and then reject it.”  I never thought of it that way.  I am going to have to be the pest that I always am and keep contacting them until the end of time, or hopefully they take a chance on one of my products.  Who knows?

But then an awesome email came to me this morning from Tayrn Scher who I sent a heart shaped cutting board to a couple of months ago.  She was going to use it in her segment for TV and did!  It was such a nice segment and you can see it here;

There are acceptions and rejecttions in life, and I really do like the acceptions.  Doesn’t everyone?
